South African authorities have made plans to dump unstable chemicals at sea after a reaction with rainwater at the time of offloading from NS Qingdao, a bulk carrier, in Durban. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment signed off on an emergency order which would allow the carrier to dump its reactive cargo between St. Helena Bay and Mzansi.

Vessel Fire Under Control at Port of Cape Town

A fire has been contained onboard a vessel berthed at the Cape Town Container Terminal.

The COSCO SHIPPING Lines container ship, COSCO SÃO PAULO, built in 2013 and currently sailing under the flag of Hong Kong, was stationed at berth 602 when Port Control reported seeing smoke billowing from the cargo hold around 13h00 on Tuesday, 26 May. Smoke had also been seen earlier when the vessel arrived outside the Port of Cape Town from Durban on Monday, 25 May.

Distressed Crude Carrier off Port St Johns
