Samsung Heavy wins AiP for LNG carrier with wing sails
The Liberian Registry, the world’s largest registry, and the Korean Register (KR) have granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the basic design of a wing sail-equipped LNG carrier. The wing sail, an eco-friendly auxiliary propulsion system, generates thrust through lift created by the pressure difference between the upper and lower sections of its wing structure, resembling the form of a sail.

First Venture Global LNG carrier is on the water
The Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoji-si, South Korea, has launched the first of the nine LNG carriers acquired during their construction phase by Arlington, Va., headquartered U.S. LNG export terminal operator Venture Global LNG. Wan Hai Lines recently held a ship naming ceremony for WAN HAI A15 at the Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard, coinciding with a charity event on 29 March.
The ceremony was jointly presided over by S.A. Choi, vice chairman & CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, and Tommy Hsieh, president of Wan Hai Lines.
