eeSea reveals a more in-depth probe into liner schedule reliability

Copenhagen-based eeSea has developed a platform designed to accurately gauge the on-time performance of liner services, as well as the standard of dispatch vessels receive at their ports of call.
Launching its first Schedule Reliability Report, covering 2019, the maritime and supply chain intelligence company said it was focused on “visibility and predictive analysis for the global container shipping industry”.
Based on over 400,000 data points, supported by the automatic identification system …

Schedule reliability is key to efficient container shipping and supply chains

Poor communication on vessel arrival time is the biggest pain-point for container shippers, according to MarineTraffic.
The vessel tracking specialist calculated that over 22% of commercial vessels arrive at their destination a day later than planned, with 15% making intermediate stops between departure port and destination.
However, under carrier contracts, arriving a day late or a day early may be considered “on time”, according to MarineTraffic product marketing manager Daniel Shirley.

Qwyk’s sailing scheduling links with DB Schenker’s online despatch system

Logistics start-up Qwyk has signed up DB Schenker for its digital sailing schedule platform.
Founded in Rotterdam in 2017, Qwyk claims to offer the “world’s largest” platform of sailing schedules, from over 90 carriers, providing integration with 3PLs, freight forwarders and shippers.
DB Schenker will integrate Qwyk’s schedules under its Ocean 4.0 system platform, which allows customers to dispatch freight consignments “quickly and conveniently” online through a single portal.

Visibility and agility will become more important to supply chains than speed

Better visibility and more responsive supply chains are the only way for shippers and their forwarders to respond to problems related to slow-steaming and containership schedule unreliability.
At last week’s TOC Americas Container Supply Chain event in Cartagena, Bill Rooney, vice president of strategic development at Kuehne + Nagel, told delegates: “Visibility is the solution to slow and unreliable assets.”
He explained that only 75%-80% of containerships arrived at their destination ports …

Cosco chief slams rivals’ plans to be ‘end-to-end’ supply chain providers

China Cosco Shipping executive vice president Wang Haimin has rubbished the idea that carriers can be sole service providers of end-to-end container supply chains.
Mr Wang (pictured) drew comparison between competitors Maersk and CMA CGM’s push to become fully integrated container logistics providers and, at the other end of the spectrum, MSC and Hapag-Lloyd’s apparent focus on pure port-to-port shipping.
“Cosco is somewhere in the middle,” he told delegates at the TPM …
