‘JIT Sailing’ Concept To Reduce Fuel Costs and Boost Schedule Reliability

According to a Loadstar article, Just-in-time (JIT) vessel arrivals could answer two of container shipping’s most pressing problems: surging fuel costs and poor schedule reliability.

What is it?

Vessel tracking specialist MarineTraffic is working with the IMO’s Global Industry Alliance (GIA) to slash the time containerships spend idling outside ports by implementing a “JIT sailing” concept.

Carriers making heavy weather of punctuality – but it’s not all their fault

Typhoons and other adverse weather events are playing havoc with carrier schedules, presenting a “major challenge” to the industry as it aims to recover from the record low levels of schedule reliability.
According to Jeremy Nixon, chief executive of Ocean Network Express (ONE), global warming has triggered more adverse and variable weather across key shipping lanes: a “remarkable increase” since 2016 when there were just nine major typhoons in Asia, compared …

Lack of clarity on container line charges, transit times and reliability scored the lowest on the satisfaction survey, carried out by Drewry and the European Shippers’ Council.
Overall, ocean carrier customer …

2M drops eight port calls, adds six ULCVs and returns to slow-steaming in network revamp

However, the weekly capacity offering will be unchanged due to the implementation of further super slow steaming on the tradelane.
2M partner MSC was especially critical of the part that …
