Forwarders applaud as Emirates SkyCargo and DP World launch sea-air product

Emirates SkyCargo and DP World have developed a sea-air product together – something forwarders said they “should have done years ago”.
The Dubai-based companies are offering Sea-Air, an express product with a pledge to transfer containers from port to airport in less than 3 hours; Sea-Air Plus, a bespoke solution whereby customers can pick DP World or their own representatives to arrange breakdowns and paperwork; and Sea-Air Flex, which offers shippers …

‘Abusive’ ocean carriers driving forwarders to air freight, and rates are rising

“Hell on the high seas” has triggered a new rise in air freight rates after a period of relative stability, say forwarders.
One forwarder called the shipping lines “abusive”, with a strategy that is sending shippers back to air freight.
“It’s getting worse. Carriers are failing, neglecting customers, providing a sub-acceptable service and yet increasing rates daily. At least the air freight sector is not being this abusive.”
One Shanghai forwarder, who said …

Sea-air services make a comeback, but volatility and uncertainty lurk

The sea-air business via Dubai and Singapore is back up and running, as air freight rates continue to stabilise.
Aeromar Sea Air, which suspended its business in March when air freight rates skyrocketed in Asia as passenger aircraft stopped flying, said it was re-introducing services.
“We still have some limits on capacity, but there is enough to offer a professional service; so we are back,” said managing director Nick Coverdale.
“Rates are stable, …

Sea-air services disrupted and rates soar as airlines suspend more flights

Sea-air shipments via Dubai and Singapore to Europe and the US have either been suspended or seen prices soar.
Aeromar, which specialises in sea freight to Dubai and onward travel by air, said it had suspended its services with immediate effect, although all cargo currently on route would continue.
It said it had been forced to make this decision as airlines began cancelling flights from Dubai.
“We can fix rates three weeks in …

Retailers now believe sea-air the best way to get their goods out of China

Major retailers awaiting their spring-summer stock are planning to opt for sea-air to get their goods out of China.
The garment industry wants its new season launches into shops before Easter, in eight weeks’ time, but “some 70% to 80% of Chinese factories are still not back up to speed,” said Grant Liddell, business development director for Metro Shipping.
“So there will be at least another week’s delay in production, and a lot …

Singapore’s SATS and PSA link up to offer ‘unique air-sea multimodal connectivity’

Singapore’s air cargo and container freight handlers are to offer shippers and forwarders combined sea-air transhipment services through the hub.
The port has been a favourite location for forwarders’ air-sea services on the Asia-Europe trade for years, UK forwarder Allport used it to serve UK fashion retailers looking for a cheaper option than pure air fright between China and the UK.
However, today’s agreement, between airport services provider SATS and port operator …
