I like the lifestyle and I have been doing it for twenty years

Meet Sofia Lundmark, Master Mariner, who loves her work and is very honest about that. She loves the lifestyle of a seafarer, and she knows she will always be working in shipping.

We discuss digitalisation, electronic paperwork, HSQE Health, safety, quality and environment, and why. We touch upon the fact that few people see the reason behind all rules and regulations and that it takes a very long time to put them into force.

We...

Pictured: Captain Robert Buck. Photo credit: Poseidon Sea Pilots.

Mariners say the ocean can be unforgiving. During a voyage as a junior officer, Robert Buck found just out how much. Although he didn’t know it, he was a little more than four minutes from disaster.

“We knew the cyclone was out there,” Robert recalls.

The crew were carrying steel on the Newcastle-Auckland route in a general cargo ship. The voyage takes about five days, but bad weather adds an extra couple of days. One day out from...

What is a fair future for seafarers?

We continue the discussion about; what is a fair future for seafarers? Dr Jason Zuidema, Executive Director, North American Maritime Ministry Association, NAMMA, shares his view on what we need to do to make seafarers keyworkers. Container Collapse Can Cause PTSD for Seafarers, Warns CSSS
