Seafarers’ Relief Fund Reaches $530,000 In Pledges Towards COVID-19 Seafarer Cr

The Seafarers International Relief Fund (SIRF), established by leading seafarer welfare charities and the wider shipping industry to support seafarers and their families devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has collected $530,000 in pledges so far, and thanks to The Seafarers’ Charity’s agile and established grant-making processes, has already issued grants of almost $400,000 to help those worst affected.

KVH boosts seafarers’ communication with free VoIP calls

Seafarers onboard ships with KVH VSAT service installed, will from now on have the chance to make free Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls to ISWAN’s confidential 24-hour SeafarerHelp phone line. In fact, KVH VSAT informed that will place the free VoIP calls, in order to encourage seafarers’ communication while at sea.

Seafarers’ Charity ‘Stella Maris’ Helps Crew Whose Ship Goes Adrift

Global maritime charity Stella Maris (Apostleship of the Sea) in Seychelles has stepped in to assist a crew of five fishermen who were cast adrift in the Indian Ocean following an engine failure.

The crew sent out a distress message and were spotted by the Seychelles Marine Police who towed the ship and fishermen back to shore. The men were put in police custody and questioned as only the Captain had a valid passport on him.
