  • A wide-ranging human rights checklist has today been issued to business enterprises engaged with the maritime industry to protect seafarers stranded on ships.
  • They are caught in the middle of the sea due to new COVID-19 variants and government-imposed travel restrictions.

Seafarers To Have More Support, Counselling & Internet Access

The Seafarers Welfare Board has been providing counselling, access to books, the internet and toll calls to seafarers for years and a charity providing support services to visiting seafarers will be able to increase resources following a funding boost from the government, says an article published in RNZ.

Florida yachtsman stranded for hours rescued by containership

Not all seafarers are stranded: a containership has rescued one sailor, demonstrating “the strong ties that the maritime community has with one another”. Shipping groups lobby Amazon chief to support stranded seafarers

Shipping organisations have written an open letter to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, urging him to step in to help support stranded seafarers.

Maersk calls for action as stranded seafarer roll call hits 400,000

Australian supply chains threatened by containership crew-change crisis
