Five vessels diverted from Port of New Orleans

Container carriers weren’t taking any chances with what grew to a Category 4 hurricane, steering some vessels away from a Gulf Coast port expected to be hit by the powerful storm. 

Carrier schedules showed five of 13 services bypassed calls at the Port of New Orleans this week because of Hurricane Laura.  

According to data provided to American Shipper by BlueWater Reporting, vessels skipping Port NOLA this week were the:

Wan Hai, Sealand and Interasia re-launch CTV service

Taiwanese intra-Asia carrier Wan Hai Lines will launch a China-Thailand-Vietnam service with Maersk Sealand and Interasia Lines.

The CTV service, to begin on 15 May, is part of Wan Hai’s strategy to consolidate its market share in the competitive intra-Asia segment.

Wan Hai said, “At present, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on cargo volumes on the China-Southeast Asia route, has been relatively mild, so we are moving in early to secure our position.”

Rising SE Asia trade prompts Sealand’s Incheon calls

Maersk Line’s regional unit Sealand has launched two new intra-Asia services with calls at Incheon, reflecting growing container trade between the South Korean port and Southeast Asia.

Incheon Port Authority (IPA), which has been promoting Incheon as a gateway into Seoul, announced that Sealand’s IA8 service called at Hanjin Incheon Container Terminal in Incheon New Port for the first time on 18 February 2020.

Sealand opens new office in Chile

Sealand inaugurated its new office in Santiago, Chile on May 31st on the 7th floor of the same building that houses the overall Cluster Maersk organization. The building is located in a prime business area of Santiago and is close to the subway line, allowing easy access by collaborators and customers. Sealand launches new service in America
