Eastern Shipbuilding launches second tug for Bisso Offshore

On Jan. 31, 2020, Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. launched the second of two 80’x38’x13’2″ 5,100-hp Z-drive tugs, the A. Thomas Higgins, for Bisso Offshore LLC, a division of E.N. Bisso & Son Inc. The RAL RApport 2400 ship handling tug design was provided by Robert Allan Ltd. Vancouver, British Columbia. The tug is currently under construction at Eastern’s Allanton facility. The C.D. Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation has delivered a second high-speed passenger ferry to Rhode Island Fast Ferry Inc., Quonset Point, R.I. Moran Iron Works building new ferry for Michigan

Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry and Moran Iron Works are joining forces a second time to build a $4 million 84’x20’3″ ferry in Northeast Michigan.

Shepler and Tom Moran, CEO and founder of Moran Iron Works, announced the project at a recent news conference in Moran’s fabrication center, where Shepler cut the first piece of metal for the new ferry. It is scheduled to carry its first passengers in the summer of 2020.

ACL’s second new riverboat to be delivered in August

American Cruise Lines announced that its second new modern riverboat, the 269’x59′ American Harmony, moved under its own power to the shipyard’s outfitting pier for final touches.

Vigor Alaska is nearing completion of the second of two 280’x70′, 300-passenger, 53-vehicle Alaska-class ferries for the Alaska Marine Highway System, according to a report in The Seattle Times. The first of the two ferries, Tazlina, was launched in May and christened Aug. 11, the first state ferry built in Alaska. The second ferry, Hubbard, scheduled for completion in March 2019. The Tazlina is slated to enter service in May 2019.
