Tariff war spurs surge in Transpacific blank sailings

The US tariff war continues to directly affect container shipping operations, as the number of cancelled sailings on the Transpacific trade increased drastically this past week, according to the latest Sea-Intelligence report.

Danish shipping data analysts explain: “When we look at the data, it is quite evident that the impact of the trade war has caused many shippers to pause, or outright cancel, shipments. This, in turn, reduces demand for capacity on container vessels, to which carriers...

Ocean Carriers Slash Transpacific Capacity Amid Tariff Turmoil

According to analysts at Sea-Intelligence, the current political landscape is marked by extreme volatility, with tariffs being imposed and lifted at a rapid pace. In this climate of uncertainty, both shipping lines and cargo owners are opting for short-term adjustments to their supply chains, holding off on major long-term network changes until the situation stabilizes.

For the period from the 16th to the 19th week of the year, the Danish shipping data experts have looked at the capacity...

Gemini shuttles record elite schedule reliability levels in February

In more than 30 years, the domain of the container shipping alliances has always been exclusively on mainliner, deep-sea services, with individual carrier members operating their own feeder services.

Sea-Intelligence notes that the newly launched Gemini Cooperation has taken a different approach to their alliance network design, incorporating a hub-and-spoke model within their formal alliance, with fewer mainliner calls and an increased focus on transshipment via shuttles.
