China weekly export box shipping index edges up

China’s container transport for export purposes increased for the week ending Friday, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) stood at 811.44, up 2 percent from a week earlier, the exchange said.

The sub-index for South Africa service rallied by 11.2 percent to 572.08 week on week, while that for Korea service declined 4.4 percent to 582.35.

SCFI dips slightly last week

Supply-demand picture in China’s containerized export was mixed depending on trade routes and the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) edged down by 0.3% to a reading of 723.93 last Friday.

Spot rates for containers moving from Shanghai to Europe was $743 per TEU, up 2.8% from the previous week bolstered by a stable transport demand while on the Mediterranean trade, the freight rate moved upward by 2.0% to $710 per TEU.

CCFI climbed last week

China’s container transport for export purposes edged up for the week ending Friday, May 17,, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) stood at 804.46, up 1.6 percent from a week earlier, the exchange said.

The sub-index for the U.S. east coast route led the increase by a week-on-week growth of 6.3 percent, while that for the South America route led the fall by dropping 3.6 percent.

Shanghai box freight index falls last week

The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 2.7 percent to 756.88 last week from the previous Friday’s reading of 778.00 to a reading of 703.67, as increases from Shanghai to the Europe trade was not enough to offset declines from Shanghai to the U.S. trades.

Spot rates from Shanghai to Europe rose 7.1 percent last week, from $717 per TEU to $768 per TEU, while spot rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean remained roughly flat at $726 per TEU.

China’s export container shipping index drops

China’s container transport for export purposes continued to contract last month due to weak demand during low seasons, according to a report released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) came in at 799.65 in April, down 3.8 percent from the previous month.

The pace eased from the 6.3-percent decrease registered in March, the exchange said.

In the first four months of 2019, the index averaged 839.88, picking up from an average of 817.8 for 2018.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) stood at 802.27, up 0.1 percent from a week earlier, the exchange said.

The sub-index for South America service rallied by 2.8 percent to 574.54 week on week, while that for Europe service declined 0.9 percent to 945.67.

China’s export container transport slightly down

China’s container transport for export purposes lost steam in December over lackluster demand on some routes, according to data from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Export Containerized Freight Index stood at 849.69 points in December, down 0.5 percent from a month earlier, the exchange said in a statement.

Last year, the index averaged 817.8, slightly lower than an average of 820.47 points for 2017.

China’s export container transport edges down

China’s container transport for export purposes lost steam in October as the traditional peak season neared its end, according to data from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Export Containerized Freight Index stood at 834.55 points in October, down 2.3 percent from a month earlier, the exchange said in a statement.

Since the beginning of this year, the index has averaged 810.48, lower than last year’s average of 820.47.
