Shipping lines to face fines for delays

Shipping lines may soon face fines for delays in the unloading of import containers, which spawn congestion at ports, the leader of a truckers’ group said Monday, March 4.

Truckers, after delivering shipments to warehouses, are supposed to return empty container vans to the shipping lines. Several firms, however, do not have enough container yards, said Mary Zapata, president of the Aduana Business Club Inc.

Companies must open up yard for empty containers

Philippines – Shipping companies have been directed to open up container yards that will be utilized as depot for empty containers amid clamor from truckers over port congestion.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said on Monday (Nov. 19) he had required shipping lines to open up container yards for empty containers. He also directed the transfer of empty containers to inland container yards.

Cambodian logistics companies demand lower fees

At the behest of the Cambodian logistics sector, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport is urging international shipping companies to consider reducing, or even dropping, fees that have inflated costs for local firms.

Port of Long Beach sees container volume hit 8 million mark, just ahead of tariff start

The Port of Long Beach says September container volumes fell from a year ago, but fiscal year volumes hit a new record. The results come just ahead of the tariffs the U.S. imposed on $200 billion in Chinese imports.
