Pirates release one crew of “Happy Lady”, seven remain hostages

Following the pirate’s attack on 31 December 2019 in the Greek-flagged “Happy Lady” tanker, from Limboh port in Cameroon, one of the kidnapped crewmembers officially announced to be returned back in his country, Greece. MARAD warns US ships to be aware of Iranian attacks

After the death of the Iranian commander, Qassem Soleimani by a US drone, the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) officially published an advisory in order to warn the US ships located across the Middle East waterways of the possible Iranian maritime threats.

The Iranian response to this action, if any, is unknown, but there remains the possibility of Iranian action against U.S. maritime interests in the region.

Three kidnapped and four killed due to piracy attack

On 2 January 2020, a Nigeria-flagged hopper dredger vessel experienced a piracy attack. Specifically, the vessel was sailing in the Gulf of Guinea when three persons reported to be kidnapped and four announced to be killed after the pirate’s invasion.

Containership experiences fire in its cargo hold containers

On 4 January 2020, the containership knows as “Cosco Pacific” reported unexpectedly fire in its cargo hold containers. Specifically, the vessel was en route from Port Klang Malaysia to Ngava Sheva western India when the fire started and had to reroute.

Investigation report World Bora – Raba: Masters’ lack of watchkeeping results to collision

On February 19, 2019, the Cypriot-flagged cargo ship Raba, sailing from Copenhagen to Szczecin, collided with the Danish-flagged ‘World Bora’, which was sailing towards “Viking” wind farm in the Exclusive Economic Zone. Fishing vessel sinks in Gulf of Alaska, five go missing

The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search for five fishermen after their boat, Scandies Rose, sank near Sutwik Island in Alaska, during the late hours of Tuesday, December 31.
