Analysis: Jansen & Skou in ideological battle but Saadé laughs first

The most entertaining side, if there is one at all these days, of this rather dramatic Covid-19 pandemic era?
Well, the container shipping masterminds are on a roll, often disagreeing: on corporate strategy (vertical integration, or the lack thereof); funding requirements (not enough cash is kicking around; or whether too much is up for grabs, if you are based in the East); and, of course, state aid in what is clearly …

Maersk CEO warns of slump in Q2 volumes

Chief executive officer of AP Møller – Maersk, Søren Skou, has forecast a huge Q2 volumes plunge in the company’s announcement of the first-quarter results.

The Danish liner company has cancelled numerous sailings with its 2M Alliance partner, MSC, as a result of the second-quarter decline, with more cancellations announced this week as demand drops steeply.

“As global demand continues to be significantly affected, we expect volumes in Q2 to decrease across all businesses, possibly by as much as...

”In the first quarter of the year, AP Møller Mærsk again delivered profitable growth. (…). We continue to support our customers in keeping their supply chains running, however as global demand continues to be significantly affected, we expect volumes in Q2 to decrease across all businesses, possibly by as much as 20-25%. 2020 is a challenging year, but (…) we are strongly positioned to weather the storm.”

Market Insight: ‘Erratic’ Maersk will shrink again – here are two divestment candidates

All bets are off in my marketplace as to what assets Denmark’s AP Møller-Mærsk (APMM) would sell next to reinforce its status of global container integrator worldwide.
And that seems to be a more pressing issue than speculating on a new chapter of its own M&A strategy, to grow where it matters, to make sense of its Grand Plan revolving around an asset-lighter base.
“We’re ready now”, was the catchy headline that …

EU companies at risk of losing out to foreign competition warns Maersk

Maersk CEO Soren Skou believes that EU competition rules belong in the last century and that they are preventing dynamic companies from vying effectively with Asian and US competitors.

In an interview with Danish daily newspaper, Finans, Skou said that European companies risked being “outperformed by a Chinese company, over which the European Union has no influence.”

Skou went on to say, “We cannot allow the United States and China to win the global technology race, while we spend our time...

According to an article published in The Loadstar, Maersk Line has announced that its chief operating officer Søren Toft has decided to leave the company.

Market Insight: APMM – How Dybeck Happe’s departure comes at the worst possible time

The excerpt below was this week’s soft headline story, or so I thought, until the end of the weekend for AP Møller-Mærsk (APMM). Then Monday came and all hell broke loose.
“Around 100 jobs will be lost at Hamburg Süd (…) in Hamburg, at the headquarters of the German subsidiary of Maersk,” Nieuwsblad Transport wrote on Friday. At the height of the most recent wave of consolidation in container shipping, the target …
