Kangaroo Island: proposed port prohibited

Vickie Chapman, South Australia’s Planning and Local Government Minister, has turned down an application to build a new port at Kangaroo Island.

Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers wanted to build a timber and woodchip export facility at Smith Bay, on Kangaroo Island, which is about 120 km to the south west of Adelaide.

The port would have consisted of:

  • an open fully-piled jetty up to 650 metres long
