South Carolina Ports: Southeast market ‘booming’

The South Carolina Ports Authority said the record-setting 207,066 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) it moved in November stand as evidence that global trade continues to rebound from coronavirus-forced shutdowns earlier in the year.

That November-best figure also represents a 12% year-over-year increase from the 184,928 TEUs handled at the Wando Welch and North Charleston container terminals in 2019.

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) looked on the bright side when reporting August volumes. Yes, the number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled in August was down 10% year-over-year, but the performance was 18% better than the month before.

South Carolina Ports sees signs of economic recovery

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) sees the cars parked at its terminal as a drive toward pre-coronavirus days.

The SCPA said its busiest July ever for vehicles handled shows its strength in the roll-on/roll-off vessel sector and signals “a return to normalcy at automotive plants throughout South Carolina and the Southeast.”

South Carolina Ports laying groundwork for larger ships

Larger container ships are on the horizon at the Port of Charleston.

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) said the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal (HLT), which will be able to handle container ships carrying 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), is on track for a March opening.

SC Ports’ new terminal on track for 2021 opening

South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) has announced that the construction of the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal is on schedule for a March 2021 opening.

South Carolina terminals brace for Tropical Storm Isaias

South Carolina ports have imposed restrictions on operations starting tomorrow, as they brace themselves for the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaias.

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) said it finished fiscal year 2020 with “relatively steady volumes” despite waves of canceled sailings and supply chain disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

South Carolina Ports Authority’s momentum continues in early fiscal year 2020 with the best September on record for cargo volumes.
