ICTSI South Pacific terminals handle largest ships to call Papua New Guinea

South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) and Motukea International Terminal (MIT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI’s) operations in the ports of Lae and Motukea, respectively, established a record as they welcomed the largest boxship to ever dock in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands region.

The 2,754 TEU gearless vessel Kota Gabung made its inaugural call in Lae on 12 November and in Motukea, close to Port Moresby, on 17 November.

South Pacific International Container Terminal receives new Mitsui hybrid RTGs

South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) acquired two new Mitsui hybrid rubber tired gantries (RTGs) as part of its efforts to enhance operation capabilities.

Powered by a combination of a smaller diesel engine and lithium-ion battery, the Mitsui hybrids will contribute to more efficient landside operation resulting in faster turnaround time for outside trucks. Additionally, the hybrid mechanism helps reduce the terminal’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

SPICT receives two new STS cranes for Port of Lae

South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT), a unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Lae, is now capable of handling larger boxships after receiving a pair of new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, the largest port equipment in Papua New Guinea.

SPICT enjoys equipment surge

South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) received a significant equipment-boost ahead of schedule. Three new hybrid rubber tyred gantries (RTGs) will enhance the subsidiary of ICTSI in Lae, Papua New Guinea (PNG).
