Transportation Insight makes TMS capabilities jump with SwanLeap acquisition

Digital logistics services provider Transportation Insight (TI) announced Monday it has acquired transportation management system software SwanLeap Inc. to improve the company’s TMS capabilities, enlarge its carrier network and facilitate a multimodal platform for its shipper customers. The parcel delivery business is so hot that even consultancies following the segment are in demand.

Parcel consultancy Spend Management Experts (SME) has been acquired by Transportation Insight LLC, a consultancy and lead logistics provider that itself has a sizable presence in the parcel category. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

FedEx’s peak shipping surcharges go in different direction than UPS

FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) disclosed its upcoming peak shipping season surcharges on Tuesday, and tweaked its surcharge language in an effort to set it apart from its chief rival, UPS Inc. (NYSE:UPS).

The FedEx surcharges will apply to customers that shipped more than 35,000 packages via FedEx Express and FedEx Ground in any week covering two separate periods: Oct. 5-18 and Nov. 16-29.
