Stellar Banner, the very large ore carrier (VLOC), was scuttled off the Brazilian coast. The vessel was intentionally sunk three months after she ran aground with iron ore.
The Marshall Islands-registered Stellar Banner suffered damage after departing a Vale loading terminal in Maranhão, Brazil. The vessel ran aground approximately 100km from the coast of São Luís on February 24, 2020. The vessel was carrying 306 thousand tons of iron ore and was headed for Qingdao, China.
