Evergreen joins vessel recycling initiative

Major Taiwan container ship operator Evergreen Marine Corporation has joined the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI) initiative that allows ship operators to securely share vessel recycling information.

SRTI is a UK registered charity which operates an online platform for sharing information. It is funded by a number of shipping lines, with the founding partners being China Navigation Company, AP Moeller-Maersk, NORDEN, Hapag-Lloyd, Stolt Tankers and Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

Armed guards repel attack on Stolt tanker in Gulf of Aden

Underscoring the fact that the Gulf of Aden remains a dangerous place, UKMTO (United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations) yesterday reported that a vessel had been attacked in the Gulf of Aden off Yemen’s port of Mukalla, at13° 43N 050° 37.4E

Subsequent reports identified the vessel as the U.K.-flagged 2016-built, 32,798 dwt chemical products tanker Stolt Apal, managed by Stolt Tankers B.V.

Stolt Tankers reports that all fire aboard Stolt Groenland is now reported as extinguished, following an explosion onboard at about 11:00 am local time whilst berthed at Yeompo Quay in the port of Ulsan, South Korea.

All seafarers aboard the vessel have been safely evacuated with one minor injury reported to one crew member who has received medical attention.

The families of the crew have been informed. Emergency responders will continue to maintain a cooling water spray over the ship overnight....
