Nigeria: Strike has grounded ports’ operations

The ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has grounded port operations at Nigeria’s two busiest ports, the Apapa ports and Tin-Can ports. This is even as passenger train services provided daily by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) was halted in conformity with the NLC strike directive.

Costa Rica strike continues to cause problems

The general strike in Costa Rica is causing increasing disruption to the country’s fruit exports. Pineapple and banana producer associations said that losses were running into millions of dollars and rising for each day the walkout continues.

Last week the Chamber of Producers and Exporters of Pineapple (Canapep) said that its members had been unable to export around 650,000 tonnes of pineapples due to roadblocks impeding access to the port.

Strike in Costa Rica has harmed fruits industries

A severe strike in Costa Rica over the last two weeks has heavily affected the banana and pineapple industries, with the latter suffering multi-million dollar losses.

The standstill by the country’s unions began on Sept. 10 in response to the government’s proposed tax reforms which would mean an increase in levies to face the bulky fiscal deficit.
