TT Club warns of port security side effects due to Suez Canal blockage

The danger in the safety and security of the cargo at ports due to the expected port congestion caused by the Suez Canal blockage has been highlighted by Mike Yarwood, TT Club managing director, loss prevention.

The arrival of large volumes of laden containers, coupled with the requirements for hinterland distribution, will create disruption at ports and terminals, straining throughput and yard capacities, and creating an accumulation of cargo, according to the UK-based insurance company TT Club.

Ever Given: Suez Canal Authority to seek $1 billion compensation

The Suez Canal Authority will seek compensation of more than $1 billion for losses and costs related to the refloating of the giant containership Ever Given, Suez Canal Authority Chairman Admiral Osama Rabie told Egypt’s Sada El-Balad TV on Wednesday.

Ever Given partially refloated in Suez Canal

The Ever Given had been partially refloated in the Suez Canal as of 8 a.m. EDT Monday.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) issued a statement that said the partial refloating was “the result of successful push-and-tow maneuvers, which led to the restoration of 80% of the vessel’s direction.”

The SCA said the stern, which had been stuck 13 feet from the bank of the Suez Canal, had been moved 334 feet from the edge, where it had been wedged since last Tuesday morning.
