Ocean Network Express Includes Scrubber Options Ahead of IMO 2020

Box ship operator Ocean Network Express (ONE) has decided to fit emissions abatement technology onto 10 of its vessels, says a press release published on Ship and Bunker website.

CEO Jeremy Nixon, speaking at TOC Asia conference in Singapore, said some of its owned ships would be equipped with scrubbers when in dry dock while short-term chartered vessels would come with the equipment already installed.

CMA-CGM Splits Ten 15,000 Teu Order 50/50 Between LNG and Scrubbers

Two strategic agreements covering construction of 10 new 15,000 TEU containerships signed.
Five of them are LNG fueled and five fitted with hybrid scrubbers.
Measuring 366 meters long, the ships will replace ten existing vessels on Asia-Mediterranean routes.
Group order for nine 22,000-TEU container ships powered by LNG, becoming the first shipping company in the world to choose this for vessels of this size.

New is Better in LNG Propulsion : Concludes Major Study

Study shows owners prefer LNG propulsion in newbuilds than retrofit existing ones.
Out of 143 vessels of global LNG-fuelled fleet, only 8 are retrofits as they spend more time in emissions control area (ECA).
Phased adoption of LNG is beneficial as it will allow time to develop the necessary additional infrastructure.
LNG averaged US$220 per tonne less than ECA-compliant LSMGO and also retained a substantial discount relative to LSMGO.

Top Ship Implementation Plan Items -IMO 2020

The 73rd session of the MEPC discussed the 2020 sulphur cap and decided on individual ship implementation plans.
By this circular, the IMO encourages flagged vessels to make their own plans.
Port authorities will take account of the SIP which isn’t mandatory and absence of it wouldn’t lead to a PSC Deficiency.
SIPs should include bunker system modifications, fuel oil capacity, and segregation capability, risk management, procurement of compliant fuel etc.
