Swedish docker unions clash as ports lock out striking workers

Sweden’s container ports have been crippled by a mass walkout by dockers, following a row over union representation.  
A spokesperson for the Swedish Harbour Workers’ Union told The Loadstar around 1,000 dockers were participating in three-hour strikes, but had been locked out for the whole day and evening. 
“The employers’ organisation, Ports of Sweden, has escalated the conflict with massive lockouts,” said the spokesperson.

Stockholm’s first hybrid ice-class passenger ferry launched

Stockholm shipping company Waxholmsbolaget has launched Stockholm’s first hybrid ice-going passenger ferry. The ship is powered by hybrid electric propulsion and is serving the Stockholm archipelago. It is able to transport up to 150 passengers.

The ferry will help Stockholm become a fossil fuel-free city by 2040, and provide transportation with lower noise and vibration levels.

Hapag-Lloyd announced the current revision of the Terminal Handling Charge (THC) for Sweden which will increase for 20’ / 40’ container as follows, effective January 1, 2019 and valid until further notice:

  • Standard Container
    SEK 1730 / 1930 per 20’ / 40’
  • Reefer Container / IMO Container (Haz.Mat.)
    SEK 2190 / 2390 per 20’ / 40’

Please be informed that the structure of the THC has changed and as from effective date of January 1, 2019, it includes the following surcharges:
