Swift wins appeal in multimillion-dollar driver ‘poaching’ case

A multimillion-dollar 2019 judgment that CRST won against Swift over the issue of its hire of hundreds of drivers has been overturned on appeal, with the appellate court citing a decision last year in a separate case in which CRST mostly prevailed. 

The consistent thread in the divergent decisions is the question of whether hiring another company’s drivers who are under a noncompete agreement constitutes “intentional interference.”

Missouri troopers thwart Swift driver’s alleged ‘ambush’ at HQ

A truck driver remains hospitalized more than a week after he was shot multiple times by two Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) troopers.

Investigators claim Tayland Rahim, 27, of Gladstone, Missouri, drove to the agency’s local headquarters with an assault-style rifle and fired several rounds around 9:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 in the Troop A parking lot in Lee’s Summit.

Sgt. Andy Bell, a spokesman for the Highway Patrol, said Rahim was shot after he disobeyed troopers’ commands to drop his weapon.

Swift founder Jerry Moyes takes helm of Central Freight Lines

Central Freight Lines reshuffles executive team

Less-than-truckload carrier Central Freight Lines has reshuffled some executives, naming Jerry Moyes as interim president and chief executive officer.

Moyes, who founded Swift Transportation, owns CFL, the 95-year-old LTL company headquartered in Waco, Texas.

Former CFL executive Steve Vonda, who left the carrier in May, will return as chief operating officer, replacing Michael Brennan, former CFL president.

Knight-Swift announces changes to executive roster

Knight-Swift truck on highway

The nation’s largest truckload (TL) carrier, Knight-Swift Transportation (NYSE: KNX), announced Wednesday that Adam Miller was appointed president of Swift Transportation effective last Friday. Miller succeeds Kevin Knight, who was the acting president at Swift following the 2017 merger between the two companies.

Knight will remain as Knight-Swift’s executive chairman of the board “with the primary focus of strategic growth.”

Miller will continue to serve as Knight-Swift’s chief financial officer.
