Saudi tanker hits Taiwanese navy frigate in Keelung port

The Taiwanese navy will seek compensation after a Saudi Arabian-flagged oil/chemical tanker ‘NCC Sama’ hit one of its frigates, in the harbor of Keelung in the morning hours of Saturday, local media reported.

According to data provided by Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA), the NCC Sama was entering port at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when it hit the ‘Ning Yang’ frigate FF-938 in the middle of its port side.

Taiwan-China: Cross-strait box traffic swells

Containers traded directly between Taiwan and China increased 5.02% from a year earlier to 226,685 TEUs in January, according to statistics compiled by Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). 

Looking at container throughput at major ports in Taiwan, Keelung handled 54,976 TEUs, up 5.18%; Kaohsiung, 115,656 TEUs, up 0,86%; Taichung, 45,364 TEUs, up 7.23% and Taipei, 10,189 TEUs, up 62.2%. Taipei scored the greatest year-on-year container lifting improvement.
