French carrier CMA CGM has cemented its port investment position in the Gibraltar straits after completing its acquisition of 50% of HMM’s Total Terminal International Algeciras facility, following approval from the Spanish port authority.

Los puertos de Algeciras y Tanger Med han emitido este jueves un comunicado para recordar que mantienen activo el enlace marítimo del Estrecho para camiones y semirremolques “con el mismo nivel de servicio que antes de la pandemia”. “Las navieras que operan entre ambas orillas garantizan de esta forma tanto las cadenas de suministro nacionales, como internacionales, incluyendo flujos agroindustriales, agroalimentarios o productos sanitarios, entre otros”, explican ambos puertos.

‘Storage in transit’ products expand to head off looming box congestion crisis
MSC has announced four additional container wayport storage hubs as part of its Covid-19 suspension of transit (SOT) offering to shippers looking to avoid congestion and high storage costs at destination ports on non-essential goods.
The SOT product is targeted at shippers that have been unable to cancel or halt orders from Asia and will have containers en route in the coming weeks for markets in lockdown.
