TFI International acquires 155-truck tanker carrier in Canada

TFI International Inc. has acquired Vedder Transportation Group, a tanker truck transporter of food-grade liquids and dry bulk commodities with 155 power units and 300 tanker trailers.

Vedder is based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The acquisition helps TFI establish a Canadian coast-to-coast food-grade tanker truck network, according to Alain Bedard, TFI International’s chairman, president and CEO.

LGT Transport acquires Nebraska liquid fertilizer transporter

Driver shortage especially tough on oil patch companies, tanker transporters

A year ago, the coronavirus pandemic caused jobs to vanish from the energy sector as the demand for gasoline and fuel plummeted from travel restrictions and more people working from home.

But now the economy is picking up. The summer driving season spurred fuel demand, and airline seats are getting filled. Connecticut to enact highway fee for trucks

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is expected to sign a bill passed this week by state lawmakers that, beginning January 2023, will impose a tax of up to 17.5 cents per mile on heavy trucks that use Connecticut’s roadways.

The tax,, which trucks would be required to pay in addition to federal fuel taxes, is estimated to generate $45 million in revenue in FY23 and $90 million annually thereafter, and would go toward repairing roads and bridges.
