Helsinki, Finland, headquartered Norsepower is hailing the decision by Oldendorff Carriers to fit a bulker chartered by Canadian mining giant Teck Resources with three Norsepower rotor sails. Teck and Oldendorff to fit bulker with rotor sails

In another example of how charterers are helping push forward the move to greener shipping, Canadian mining giant Teck Resources is making a joint investment with Oldendorff Carriers that will see Norsepower rotor sails retrofitted to the vessel Dietrich Oldendorff.

The ship, which carries shipments of Teck steelmaking coal from the Port of Vancouver, will be outfitted with the rotor sail system by mid-2024.

CPKC, coal producer Teck to test hydrogen-fueled locomotives

Canadian Pacific Kansas City and Teck Resources will conduct a pilot program starting in early 2024 in which coal used in steel production will be transported from Teck’s mines in southeastern British Columbia to western ports using CPKC’s hydrogen locomotives.

The companies also said they have entered into a long-term rail service agreement that will run until the end of 2026. The agreement builds on existing services, according to a Thursday release.
