Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blamed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s border safety inspections for jamming up international trade, leaving at least 19,000 trucks loaded with $1.9 billion of goods stuck waiting in Mexico.

CBP shuts down Texas port of entry, reroutes commercial traffic

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shut down a port of entry in South Texas in response to a large influx of migrants attempting to cross the Mexico border into the United States.

DEA makes record $45M meth bust in Dallas area

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Dallas field office recently announced the biggest seizure of methamphetamine in the branch’s history.

The meth — 1,930 pounds valued at $45 million — was found during a traffic stop involving a refrigerated tractor-trailer off Interstate 35 in Denton County, Texas, the DEA said Wednesday.

The 663 packages of drugs had been stashed in a secret compartment underneath the truck. Officials said the truck was empty.

$8M worth of narcotics intercepted in shipments from Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine worth more than $8.4 million in separate incidents in Texas and California, authorities said.

The first case occurred Oct. 9 at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, where officers found 30 packages containing 74 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden in a tractor-trailer from Mexico. The cocaine had an estimated street value of $786,450.

Amazon plans new facility in El Paso, brings 700 jobs

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to open its first fulfillment center in El Paso, Texas. 

The new fulfillment center, which is anticipated to launch in 2021, will create more than 700 new, full-time jobs.
