Largest meth seizure in Miami history brings cartel arrests

More than 1,100 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in shipments of concrete tiles were intercepted in March by federal agents in Miami, leading to the arrests of six alleged Mexican cartel traffickers, officials said.

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) seizure of the crystal meth is the largest in Miami-Dade County history, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Agents find $15M in meth in cargo trucks entering from Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Laredo and Pharr, Texas, discovered almost 800 pounds of methamphetamine in two recent shipments arriving from Mexico.

The first case happened March 25 at Laredo’s World Trade Bridge. Agents found 367 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in a shipment of industrial magnets. The narcotics had a street value of $7.3 million.

265 layoffs hit freight-related firms in Texas

Thyssenkrupp Supply Chain Services announced it is closing its facility in Houston and will be eliminating 30 jobs by July 31.

Thyssenkrup’s announcement was one of several freight-related layoffs announced Friday, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices.

Walmart retools Dallas store into fulfillment center

Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is converting one of its Dallas stores into a Market Fulfillment Center for online pickup orders as the retail giant seeks faster ways to serve customers.

It will be Walmart’s first Market Fulfillment Center in Texas and only the third in the U.S., Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson told FreightWaves.

358 driver, manufacturing and distribution jobs cut in Texas

Four freight-related companies in Texas announced plans to eliminate a total of 358 jobs, according to recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices.

Iowa-based VT Industries is permanently closing its door manufacturing facility in San Antonio and laying off 104 workers. The layoffs began March 12 and will be completed by July.
