ZIM and THE Alliance cut Transpacific capacity

ZIM Line and THE Alliance have withdrawn one Asia-US West Coast service each, helping to stabilise Transpacific rates when the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI) closed on 7 July.

The ZIM North Pacific (ZNP) service’s last sailing, out of Busan, will be on 12 July. The service, accounting for 1% of Asia-US West Coast capacity, previously had seven to nine ships of 2,700 to 4,300 TEUs, calling at Kaohsiung, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Vancouver, Busan and Kaohsiung.

THE Alliance changes Asia to Transpacific-West Coast network

Container shipping alliance of Hapag-Lloyd, Yang Ming, Ocean Network Express (ONE) and HMM, THE Alliance has announced changes to the Asia to Transpacific-West Coast network.

THE Alliance stops Cape of Good Hope diversions

THE Alliance has stopped rerouting ships around the Cape of Good Hope on the Asia-Europe route. The rerouting was a temporary measure as sailings were blanked in response to falling volumes.

THE Alliance leads blank sailing race

Drewry has published the weekly Cancelled Sailings Tracker service which provides a snapshot of cancelled sailings announced by each container shipping alliance against the total number of scheduled sailings.

During the eighth week (20 February – 26 February) and the 12th week (20 March – 26 March) of the year, 71 cancelled sailings were announced throughout the Transpacific, Transatlantic, and Asia-North Europe & Mediterranean trades, indicating a 10% cancellation rate.
