Thermo King looks to refrigerant to tackle carbon emissions

Trane Technologies is switching to lower-emissions refrigerant.

Starting this month, Thermo King’s refrigerated trucking units will come standard with R452A refrigerant, which reportedly has a 50% lower carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) impact than the previously used R404A refrigerant.

As companies strive to reduce transportation-related emissions, refrigerant is one avenue trucking companies could start exploring more.

Fresh-Tuna Freezers ‘Repurposed’ To Transport COVID19 Vaccines

  • Industrial freezers first created to ship perishable foods like fresh tuna to Japan have been retrofitted to ship the newly-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The doses can be transported in freezers like those from Thermo King, which have been proven to keep supermarket- and restaurant-grade tuna at -76 degrees Fahrenheit.
