Thordon Bearings has unveiled a new wireless propeller shaft bearing wear measurement system that marks a significant advancement in hull and propeller shaft condition monitoring. AHTS stern roller bearings replaced with Thordon SXL bearings at sea

Dubai-based Ocean Power International (OPI) recently replaced the bronze bearings in the stern roller of the anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel ES Kestrel with grease-free SXL bearings from Thordon Bearings while the vessel remained afloat and operational.

The replacement was undertaken by OPI, which is Thordon’s Dubai-based distributor Ocean Power International (OPI) for the AHTS’s owner, Echo Cargo & Shipping of U.A.E.

Fully-electric ferry completes inaugural round trip

The first fully-electric, high-speed passenger ferry in the southern hemisphere last month completed its inaugural round trip for New Zealand’s East by West Ferries.

The 19 meter long ferry, the Ika Rere, can carry up to 132 passengers on routes across Wellington Harbor at an operational speed of 20 knots. It has been designed and built to complete one return run of 25 kilometers before charging dockside at a rate of 1 megawatt for 15 minutes while passengers disembark and board.
