A 92-foot crew transfer vessel (CTV) concept design developed by All American Marine and Teknicraft Design has gained an Approval in Principle (AiP) from classification society DNV.

Crowley to charter in powerful Tier IV tug

Crowley Maritime’s ship assist and escort services group has agreed to charter its third Tier IV ship assist tug, Athena.

McAllister Towing has announced the arrival of the 93’x38′ tug Eileen McAllister, the 34th tractor tug in McAllister’s fleet.

The new tug is powered by 3516E Tier 4 Caterpillar engines with twin Schottel SRP 490 Z-drive units. Packed into the hull is 6,770 hp. Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a proposed rule in the Federal Register that would address concerns associated with finding and installing certified Tier 4 marine diesel engines in certain high-speed commercial vessels.

Georgia ship pilots, New England offshore lobster fishermen and their boat builders will get three more years to meet Tier 4 emission standards for their lightweight and high-powered diesel engines, with a proposed extension from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In a notice published Monday EPA officials outlined their intent to give certain classes of high-speed vessels more time, given the technical challenges designers and builders face cramming in new emission controls.
