Repaired MSC Ariane set to resume voyage to LA

The MSC Ariane, which diverted to Japan for repairs, is expected to resume sailing for the Port of Los Angeles on Wednesday. 

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. said the Ariane “had an engine issue due to bad quality of fuel” on April 2 while en route from Xiamen, China, to LA.

MSC did not say what repairs were done in Wakayama, Japan. 

The MSC Ariane now is expected to anchor in California’s San Pedro Bay on May 1. “The estimated berthing date will depend upon the congestion in the Los Angeles area,”...

Another Maersk ship sailing for LA loses containers

A.P. Møller – Maersk has confirmed yet another midocean loss of containers.

A Maersk spokesman told American Shipper that while en route from Xiamen, China, to Los Angeles on Wednesday, the Maersk Eindhoven “experienced an engine stop in heavy seas near Japan during her crossing, resulting in the loss of a number of containers overboard.”

Maersk did not provide an approximate number of containers lost, only saying that “a detailed cargo assessment is ongoing.”

Maersk Essen loses 750 containers, sails for Mexico

It’s happened again. Hundreds of containers carrying goods such as furniture, fitness equipment and electronics have fallen overboard from a California-bound ship.

This time it was the Maersk Essen en route from Xiamen, China, to the Port of Los Angeles last Saturday when, according to the ocean carrier, the container ship experienced a “rough sea encounter.”

ONE Apus container loss shows need for ‘real-time information’

It’s been more than two weeks since 1,816 containers were lost from the deck of the ONE Apus en route to Long Beach, California. The public has been told the contents of only 64 of those containers.

Storm-beaten ONE Apus berths in Japan

Now that the ONE Apus has berthed in Japan, investigators can begin to sort through what could be thousands of damaged containers on the ship’s deck. This is in addition to the 1,816 containers reported lost at sea.

Ocean Network Express reported 1,816 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) fell from the ONE Apus as it sailed from Yantian, China, to Long Beach, California, last week.
