Canal Barge Company repowers two towboats

New Orleans-based Canal Barge Company recently repowered two of its towboats with Laborde Products Inc. (Covington, La.) solutions.

The first vessel project, the M/V Ned Merrick, featured the replacement of the vessel’s previous engines with two Tier 3 S16R engines from Mitsubishi, each delivering 1675HP at 1600RPM. The vessel was previously powered by two EMD 567 engines.

Paducah, Ky., headquartered Crounse Corporation has recently taken delivery of the 6,034-horsepower towboat M/V Alice. Guilty plea in Big Sandy River towboat spill case

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia reports that David K. Smith, 55, of Paducah, Kentucky, River Marine Enterprises, LLC, and Western River Assets, LLC, pleaded guilty October 17 to discharge of refuse into navigable waters. Water-contaminated fuel saw towboat lose all propulsion

In a Marine Safety Alert released yesterday, the Coast Guard reports that a towing vessel operating in a pushing-ahead configuration experienced a loss of all propulsion while operating on the Mississippi River. The loss of propulsion occurred approximately three hours after getting underway and about 3.5 hours after receiving fuel from a shore-side facility. Fortunately, there was no significant damage to the vessel, nor injuries to crewmembers because of this casualty.

Maritime Partners held a christening ceremony last month for the M/V Emily Webber towboat, the seventh of nine vessels the company is building at Intracoastal Iron Works in Bourg, La.
