MINO Marine announces new 6,000-hp towboat design

MiNO Marine LLC, Jefferson, La., has announced that the second vessel based on its new 6,000 hp inland towboat design has been contracted for and production will begin soon at Conrad Amelia Shipyard. (No owner was announced, but a request for the company’s name has been made.)

Three crewmembers safely got off their sinking towboat after it struck a submerged object in the Mississippi River near Venice, La., around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

The 55′ X 23′ X 7.2′, 900-hp DeJeanne Maria, operated by Denet Towing Service Inc., Boothville, La., was pushing two empty dry cargo barges downbound in Pass a Loutre when it stuck the object, according to Coast Guard officials.

Inadequate maintenance blamed in Tennessee towboat sinking

Inadequate maintenance that resulted in corrosion and a loss of watertight integrity was behind a March 2018 towboat sinking on Everett Lake, Tenn., the National Transportation Safety Board reported.

The 64.5’x23’x6’, 1,600-hp Ms Nancy C, operated by the Choctaw Transportation Co., Dyersville, Tenn., was moving dry barges on the lake, a tributary of the Mississippi River at mile marker 832, on March 6 at about 4:30 p.m. when a deckhand noticed water filling a stern void.

The captain of a towboat was missing after his vessel capsized on the Lower Mississippi River Monday night, Coast Guard officials said.

Two crewmembers escaped when the 54’x22’, 1,200-hp Seattle Slew was reported capsized at 8:12 p.m. near the Myrtle Grove Fleet, north of Point A La Hache, La., according to a statement from the Coast Guard 8th District.

The Seattle Slew is one of 26 vessels operated by Turn Services, a fleeting and shifting operator based in New Orleans. Television station WWL...

The U.S. Coast Guard reopened the waterway closure on the Mississippi River from mile marker 224.5 to mile marker 226 after a vessel sank near Baton Rouge, La., Thursday. General Anchorage remains closed.

NTSB: Flooding through open hatches sank towboat, killed two near Memphis

Water coming over the bow and downflooding through open, unsecured hatches likely caused the Dec. 8, 2017 sinking of a towboat near Memphis, Tenn., that killed the captain and deckhand, the National Transportation Safety Board reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported the sinking of a vessel near Cheshire, Ohio, on Friday.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Huntington received a report at 1 p.m. that the towing vessel Ed McLaughlin, owned by McGinnis Marine, capsized on the Ohio River at mile marker 259.

All three crewmembers that were aboard the vessel are accounted for and have been taken to a local hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.
