Vessel Fire Under Control at Port of Cape Town

A fire has been contained onboard a vessel berthed at the Cape Town Container Terminal.

The COSCO SHIPPING Lines container ship, COSCO SÃO PAULO, built in 2013 and currently sailing under the flag of Hong Kong, was stationed at berth 602 when Port Control reported seeing smoke billowing from the cargo hold around 13h00 on Tuesday, 26 May. Smoke had also been seen earlier when the vessel arrived outside the Port of Cape Town from Durban on Monday, 25 May.

Transnet to improve port terminal efficiency

Transnet national port authority will be bringing in foreign operators to help improve efficiencies at its terminals and was dealing with corruption in the organisation.

That was the message to freight industry representatives at the Transport Forum, hosted by Transnet Port Terminals, in Durban on Thursday, April 4.
