Navistar again boosts Traton Group financials

Germany’s Traton Group reported 32% higher revenues in 2022 despite the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, ongoing supply chain disruptions and record inflation.

Its North American truck-making unit, Navistar International, contributed significantly. Without the Lisle, Illinois-based manufacturer, Traton would have reported just 10% improved revenue year over year. Traton acquired Navistar for $3.7 billion in October 2021.

The truck holding company of Volkswagen AG , Traton is one of the...

ATRI findings challenge quick transition to electric trucks

The stunningly big numbers tied to electric infrastructure from the American Transportation Research Institute this week reinforce the chicken-and-egg cliche about electric trucks. Yet even as they were being digested, more announcements of battery-powered trucks rolled in.

Navistar recalls more than 31,000 trucks for suspect fasteners

Navistar Inc. is recalling more than 31,000 trucks and buses across its lineup because improper heat treating on hex flange lock nuts could lead to the fasteners breaking, resulting in unstable steering and the increased possibility of a crash.

The truck maker owned by Germany’s Traton Group, said it was unaware of any field failures, crashes or injuries related to the condition. The recalled vehicles have nonconforming hex flange lock nuts. Similar vehicles have conforming parts.

Truck Tech: Plant anatomy edition

How did Navistar manage to build its assembly plant in San Antonio for a relatively paltry $250 million? Partly by ignoring a famous baseball movie line. Also this week, Daimler Truck North America preps technicians to work on electric trucks. And every step van on the market could be electrified — today, a North American Council for Freight Efficiency report says.
