Transport and logistics insurer TT Club has appointed Andrew Peers as senior underwriter for its UK, Benelux and Nordic team.
Andrew joins from RSA, where he spent 17 years and led a team of 12 marine liability and marine property insurance underwriters, and has also held senior positions at GE Frankona and Willis.

General average ‘likely’ as another blaze breaks out on a containership  

Yet another container vessel has caught fire – the latest casualty is the 9,200 teu APL Vancouver, off the Vietnamese coast en route from China to Singapore.

Other carriers should copy Maersk and spot check containers, says TT Club

Global shipping insurer TT Club has commended Maersk’s decision to begin random spot checks on containers and wants more carriers to follow its example.

Maersk to begin random container inspections over safety fears

Maersk Line is set to begin physically inspecting container contents as part of its efforts to stem the increasing numbers of fires that break out inside boxes during transit, as well as boxes in which cargo moves or is damaged due to not being lashed correctly.

Maersk issues new rules for stowage of dangerous goods on its box ships

Maersk Line has announced it is deploying new guidelines for the stowage of containers on its vessels.
And it wants the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to review its guidelines for the handling and carriage of dangerous goods.
