Gulf Island delivers Z-drive tug to Suderman & Young

Gulf Island Fabrication Inc. announced that its shipyard division, Gulf Island Shipyards, has delivered the 98’6″x42’8″x16’5″ Ted C. Litton, a Z-Tech 30-80 terminal/escort tug to Suderman & Young Towing Co.

The tug was designed by Robert Allan Ltd., Vancouver, British Colombia, and built at Gulf Island’s Jennings, La., facilities. Main propulsion comes from two Caterpillar 3516E, C rating, Tier 4 diesel engines, each producing 3,386 hp at 1,800 rpm. The Cats are connected to Schottel SRP 510 FP...

Jensen Maritime Consultants, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, has provided the detailed design for Shaver Transportation Co.’s new, Z-drive tug — Samantha S.

The multi-purpose tug was built at Diversified Marine Inc., in Portland, Ore., and is operating along the West Coast. The tug is ABS-classed and carries a FFV1 firefighting notation.

Robbins Maritime gets first Sub M COI from Hampton Roads sector

On Jan. 10, Robbins Maritime Inc., Norfolk, Va., received a Certificate of Inspection (COI) on its 78′ tug Delta. This was the first Coast Guard option COI issued by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, Va., according to Robbins Maritime officials.

Designed by Guarino & Cox, Covington, La., the new tug, which has a steel hull and an aluminum tower, is powered by a pair of Tier 4 Caterpillar 3516E diesel engines, each producing 2,501 hp at 1,600 rpm. Foss moving 5,000-hp harbor tug to Alaska

The Bering Wind, a powerful Dolphin Class tugboat, is being transferred from the Foss Maritime fleet in Long Beach, Calif., to Cook Inlet Tug & Barge in Anchorage, Alaska. The tug, formerly known as the Campbell Foss, is scheduled to begin service in Anchorage this month.

The vessel was renamed in October of this year and is scheduled to enter service in Alaska by Nov. 15, 2018.

Blount Boats to build 56′ tug for New York tug

Warren, R.I.-based Blount Boats has signed a contract with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to build an icebreaking diesel-powered steel double-screw tugboat. The tug will to operate in seasonal ice near the entrance to and within the upper Niagara River.
