We don’t have to wait any longer to know when the containership Dali will leave Baltimore. Local media, including WBAL TV, have been showing video of the ship departing Baltimore today.

Three months after it struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, just before 8.30 a.m. this morning the 984 foot containership Dali began moving away from the Port of Baltimore’s Seagirt Marine terminal under its own power, headed for Norfolk, Va., assisted by four tugboats.

Thordon to retrofit tailshaft bearings on 32 Panama tugs

Thordon Bearings has secured a significant contract to convert the rubber tailshaft bearings across an entire fleet of Panama-operating tugs, pilot vessels, and workboats to water-lubricated polymer bearings.

The agreement with the undisclosed operator follows the successful retrofitting of Thordon’s SXL tailshaft bearings to twelve of its twin-screw tugs last year during scheduled drydockings.

BigLift brings 11 Damen tugs from Asia to Europe on one ship

Putting the big into BigLift, Spliethoff Group’s heavy lift specialist BigLift Shipping has used a single vessel to transport eleven Damen tugs from the shipbuilder’s yards in Vietnam and China to Europe.

While such voyages usually require six months to plan and organize, Damen reports that there was less than two months available to prepare for this one and to ensure that each stage was executed on time.

Resolve Marine sells its Gibraltar towing ops to Boluda

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., headquartered Resolve Marine has announced the sale of its Gibraltar operations. Two divisions are part of the sale: the company’s harbor towing operations and fleet were sold to Valencia, Spain, headquartered Boluda Towage Europe, and the marine services business to Elias Tapiero of ORC Marine. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Moran wins 8-tug MSC contract with $92 million potential

Moran Towing Corp., New Canaan, Conn., has been awarded a $17,667,600 firm-fixed-price contract with reimbursable elements for eight time-chartered, U.S. flagged and Jones Act compliant tugs to provide harbor support services and ship handling at Norfolk, Va.

The contract includes one firm period of 366 days with three 365-day option periods, and one 336-day option period. If exercised, the options would bring the Moran Towing contract’s total cumulative value to $92,042,296.
