Offshore section of TurkStream gas pipeline completed

The pipe laying vessel ‘Pioneering Spirit’ has completed construction of the offshore section of the TurkStream, the new gas pipeline connecting Russia and Turkey via the Black Sea, and the project has entered its final stage, Russian energy major Gazprom announced.

The command to weld the final joint of the gas pipeline’s second string was given by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkey requires Ship Recycling Plan under Hong Kong Convention

Turkey has opted in late October to require the submission for approval of a Ship Recycling Plan before a ship may be recycled in the country’s approved Ship Recycling Facilities, in line with Hong Kong Convention, according to information from Turkish lawyers, ErsoyBilgehan.

Container terminal in Izmir changes hands

APM Terminals have reached agreement to divest its container terminal in Izmir, Turkey to its current partner SOCAR.

As part of the sales agreement, APM Terminals will continue managing the terminal, ensuring that needs from both Shipping Lines and Landside customers are catered for.

The sale is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to finalize in the coming months. In the new structure, the operating company of Petlim will be fully owned by SOCAR Turkey, and managed by APM Terminals.

Increased Terminal Charges for Izmit, Turkey

The Terminal Handling Charge (THO) for Izmit, Turkey to Far East and Middle East will be increased as follows for 20’ / 40’ containers, effective November 1, 2018 and valid until further notice:

  • Standard Container
    USD 165 / 165  per 20’ / 40’

The THO will apply for Far East and Middle East destinations – only from Izmit.
