American manufacturing is coming back. So are strikes. 

President Joe Biden’s $9.2 billion electric vehicle manufacturing loan to Ford seems like a perfect meld of American interests. Announced in June, the loan to the Michigan automaker and a South Korean battery manufacturer will spur the building of three EV battery plants in the U.S. That cheerfully means eco-friendly cars and blue-collar jobs — environmentalism with a side of America First.

Volvo Trucks and UAW cut another deal but workers still booing

United Auto Workers and Volvo Truck North America (VTNA) bargainers reached another tentative agreement Thursday, but early indications are the rank and file like this deal no more than one they sent down in flames earlier this week.

Details of the new pact posted on UAW Local 2069’s Facebook page include a longer contract — six years instead of five — and larger lump-sum bonuses for retirees. A 12% gross wage increase would mean hourly wages for some workers would top out at $30.92 at the end...

Lordstown Motors going public in reverse merger

Startup electric pickup truck maker Lordstown Motors Corp. (LMC) will go public in a reverse merger that will bring it the much-needed cash to retool a former General Motors (NYSE: GM) car plant.

The deal with DiamondPeak Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: DPHCU) will bring $675 million to LMC at a valuation of $1.6 billion. Assuming the merger closes in the fourth quarter, LMC will trade under the ticker symbol RIDE.
