Ambrey: Latest Houthi attacks show a “significant increase in effectiveness”

This week has seen a spate of new Houthi attacks — and, in a just released threat circular, maritime risk consultancy Ambrey says that they are showing a significant increase In effective. In the week prior to the release of the Ambrey circular, the Houthi claimed six operations against merchant shipping. Four of those targeting attempts resulted in physical damage.

Bulker survives multiple missile strikes as Houthi attacks mount

Shipowners and charterers who are averse to taking calculated risks with their ships, cargo and crew may have to divert even further to avoid Houthi attacks. Houthis target Vietnamese-owned tanker, threaten attacks in Indian Ocean

The situation in the Red Sea gets no calmer. Today brought a report from UKMTO of a Houthi attack on a merchant vessel 76 nautical miles west of Al Hudayah. While UKMTO initially reported the master as saying that the vessel had been struck and had sustained some damage, in a subsequent update, the master reported that, upon a daylight inspection, it was found that the vessel had sustained no damage and was proceeding on its voyage.

Houthis target SeaLead containership Pinocchio

The latest merchant vessel targeted by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist groups is the Liberian-flagged containership Pinocchio, which according to the Equasis data base is operated by Singapore headquartered SeaLead Shipping Pte. According to vessel tracking sites, the ship was en route from Jeddah to the Suez Canal at the time of the attack.

At least two seafarers dead in Houthi attack on bulker True Confidence

At least two seafarers have been killed in a Houthi missile attack on the 2011-built Barbados-flagged bulker True Confidence and others have reportedly suffered serious burns. An MSC containership has become the latest vessel to be damaged in a Houthi attack.

Houthis attack another Star Bulk vessel

Don’t say “whack a mole,” but as has happened before, multiple strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen by U.S. Central Command between February 7 and 10, appeared to produce a two day calm in the Red Sea that proved to be short lived. U.K. Maritime Trade Operations issuing no maritime warnings between February 9 and February 11. But today brought news of what appeared to be the second Houthi attack on a Star Bulk vessel, the Star Iris.
