So far in the Drone Disruptors series, we’ve taken a look at two distinctly different players in the drone delivery space. Israel-based Flytrex hopes to become the drone of the U.S. suburbs, flying over residential neighborhoods and airdropping cups of coffee to your backyard. Then there’s Volansi, headquartered in the Bay Area, a company seeking to fly in more remote areas – including over the ocean.

Without changes, warehouses could ground drone deliveries

Maybe not today, and not likely tomorrow, but one day soon, many Americans will receive their first e-commerce delivery by drone. For residents in select areas of the country – North Carolina, Arkansas and Ohio among others – drones are already making deliveries to the home.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Walmart (NYSE: WMT), UPS (NYSE: UPS) and Kroger (NYSE: KR) are among the large retailers and delivery providers that are rapidly scaling up drone delivery tests. Others will soon follow.

If drones can deliver Starbucks, what’s taking so long for packages?

If you live in Fayetteville, North Carolina, you can now have Starbucks delivered — not quite in your backyard yet, but soon perhaps.

An Israeli drone company, Flytrex, has been testing drone delivery in North Carolina, delivering items from restaurants in the Holly Springs Towne Center to a pickup location within a five-minute drone flight. Starbucks, Dairy Queen Blizzards, pastries and light meals are among the menu items.
