The Utah Inland Port Authority, short-line operator TNW Corp. and the Surface Transportation Board have announced appointments and promotions.

Utah Inland Port Authority names executive director

Ben Hart is the Utah Inland Port Authority’s new executive director, starting Sept. 12.

Hart is “a seasoned and well-regarded executive who brings a wealth of knowledge and relationships to the table,” Jack Hedge, Utah Inland Port Authority president, said in a release.

Port projects pull in nearly $57M in infrastructure grants

Increasing intermodal rail capacity at select ports and developing inland ports are among the goals of projects receiving millions in federal grant money.

Port of Long Beach sets up rail relief valve in Utah

The Port of Long Beach said Wednesday it is implementing a modified inland port project with the state of Utah to convert containers headed to the Mountain West region to rail from truck in an effort to increase turnover and reduce massive backlogs that have impacted business around the country.

Patriot Rail acquires Salt Lake City short line operator

Jacksonville, Florida-headquartered Patriot Rail plans to acquire fellow short line operator Salt Lake Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW).

The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, will also include SLGW’s entities Caballero and Caballero 2, which are storage and transload service providers. SLGW is based in Salt Lake City.
