Valqari acquires IDU Group in quest to build citywide drone networks

drone delivery

Plenty of companies are laser-focused on the last mile of delivery and its many pitfalls. Some are even honed in on the final hundred feet.

But for a select few, the last mile is really a game of inches.

Valqari, a Chicago-based drone delivery startup, on Tuesday announced it had acquired Staffordshire, U.K.-based IDU Group, which builds drone infrastructure that can be installed from rooftops and the windows of buildings. Combined with Valqari’s drone landing stations and smart mailboxes, the...

Drone delivery is giving stadium food a lift

Drone delivery pilot delivers food and drinks

If you’re anything like me, then your favorite part of going to a baseball game is grabbing stadium food during the seventh-inning stretch. Sure, the game is great, but it’s tough to compete with bratwurst. The only problem is that the line to get food is often longer than the line to get into the stadium in the first place. But there’s a solution on the horizon — literally.

For the first time in their brief history, drones are delivering food to a sports arena. Through a collaboration between...

Without changes, warehouses could ground drone deliveries

Maybe not today, and not likely tomorrow, but one day soon, many Americans will receive their first e-commerce delivery by drone. For residents in select areas of the country – North Carolina, Arkansas and Ohio among others – drones are already making deliveries to the home.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Walmart (NYSE: WMT), UPS (NYSE: UPS) and Kroger (NYSE: KR) are among the large retailers and delivery providers that are rapidly scaling up drone delivery tests. Others will soon follow.

Drones are bringing the 19th hole to any hole

Drone delivery tested on Arizona golf course

Many golfers wish they could reach for a cold drink moments after hooking their seventh straight tee shot into the woods. The lack of electricity and staffing issues prevent golf courses from offering this level of customer service on each hole. If you are lucky, your local course may have a vending machine at the ninth hole.

But that could soon change. At Sun City Country Club in Sun City, Arizona, a significant development took place this week that may open up the opportunity for food and...
